Robot Vacuums

Clearly one of the most interesting appliance products of this century are robot vacuum cleaners.

Please consider the following points.

1) Robot vacuums do an acceptable job on dry hard floors. Yes they work!

2) Robot vacuums do a lousy job on any carpeting. This is because they:

a) Do not have a deep enough brush to effectively remove sand and grit from carpeting. The brush rarely reaches deeper than 1/4 inch if that far.

b) The motors in robot vacuums generate a small fraction of the power of a traditional upright or canister. Less power = less suction. Less suction = less dirt removed.

c) Robot vacuums typically don't have parts availability hence the ability to repair is not as good as traditional uprights and canister vacuums.

3) Robot vacuums are more technologically advanced than traditional vacuums. This means printed circuit boards and visual sensors that require substantial maintenance. Most of the time the manufacturer is planning on the product being disposable not repairable. This produces less value for your money period.

4) Robot vacuums also have rechargeable batteries that are expensive to replace if you can replace them at all.

5) The only way I can think of that is a bigger waste of money than buying a robot vacuum cleaner is to PUT COCAINE UP YOUR NOSE!!!
